Ingredients

  • 1 package refrigerated biscuits one-half baked, other half uncooked
  • 1 pound ground breakfast sausage
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 ½ cups milk
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • Salt and pepper

Instructions

  • Lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish and set aside.
  • Cut each biscuit in half. Bake one-half of the biscuits and arrange them in the prepared pan. Set aside the remaining uncooked halves.
    1 package refrigerated biscuits
  • Cook the sausage in a skillet over medium-high heat until fully browned. Drain the excess grease.
    1 pound ground breakfast sausage
  • Stir in the flour, mixing until the sausage is well coated. Lower the heat to medium and cook for 3-5 minutes, stirring frequently.
    3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • Add the milk, beef broth, salt, and pepper, stirring until the mixture comes to a gentle boil. If the gravy is too thick, add a little more broth to reach your desired consistency.
2 ½ cups milk, 1 cup beef broth, Salt and pepper
  • Pour the sausage gravy over the baked biscuits. Layer the remaining uncooked biscuit pieces on top - brush them with a bit of milk.
  • Place the dish in the air fryer and bake at 190ºC (380°F) for 15 minutes, or until golden brown. If the top starts to brown too quickly, cover it with foil for the last 5 minutes.
  • Serve and enjoy.

Notes

  • Sausage: Breakfast sausage works great, but feel free to swap it for turkey sausage or even spicy chorizo for a kick.
  • Gravy consistency: If your gravy feels too thick, add a splash of milk or broth to thin it out. Too runny? Let it simmer a bit longer.
  • Biscuits: Buttermilk biscuits are classic, but you can use homemade dough, canned biscuit dough, or even crescent rolls in a pinch.
  • Cheese: Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top of the biscuits for extra gooey goodness.
  • Prevent sticking: If you’re worried about sticking, line the dish with parchment paper or double-check that it’s well greased.
  • Cover for even baking: If your air fryer heats unevenly, cover the dish with foil for the first 10 minutes, then remove it for a golden finish.
  • Add veggies: Diced onions, bell peppers, or even spinach can be sautéed and added to the gravy for extra texture and nutrients.
  • Make ahead: Assemble it the night before, cover it tightly, and refrigerate. Pop it in the air fryer when you're ready to bake the next morning.

Storage and Reheating Instructions

  • Fridge: This casserole stores like a champ. Let it cool completely, then transfer it to an airtight container. Pop it in the fridge, where it will stay fresh for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat: To reheat, use the microwave for a quick fix or toss it back in the air fryer at 175ºC (350°F) for 5-7 minutes to revive that crispy biscuit texture.
  • Freeze: For longer storage, freeze portions in a freezer-safe container for up to 2 months. Thaw in the fridge overnight before reheating.
