Making this delicious casserole is very easy if you follow my simple instructions.

Preheat the Oven

Start by getting your oven nice and hot—set it to 350°F (180°C). This way, once everything is prepped, you’ll be ready to bake without any waiting around.

Cook the Pasta

First, cook the pasta just until al dente—you want it to hold up in the oven and not turn mushy. I use my pasta strainer because it saves me from dumping boiling water all over the counter (which has absolutely happened).

Mix the Creamy Filling

In a large bowl, stir together the cream of chicken soup, softened cream cheese, shredded mozzarella, and sour cream. I use this spatula because it gets into every corner and won’t wreck your mixing bowls.

Make sure everything is nice and smooth. Add in the onion powder, garlic powder, and scallions for that extra burst of flavor.

Now, fold in the shredded rotisserie chicken and cooked farfalle pasta. If the chicken’s still in big clumps, I give it a quick chop with my kitchen shears—less mess than shredding by hand.

You want everything evenly coated in that creamy goodness. Season with a little salt and pepper to your liking.

In a bowl, combine the chicken soup, cream cheese, mozzarella, sour cream, onion powder, garlic powder, and scallions. Gently fold in the shredded rotisserie chicken and farfalle pasta until evenly coated.

Make the Buttery Topping

In a medium bowl, mix together the crushed Ritz crackers and melted butter. This combo is going to give your casserole that irresistible, golden crunch on top.

Assemble Your Casserole

Scoop the cooked chicken and pasta mixture into a casserole dish, this is the one I use as it’s lovely and deep, and spread it out evenly. Sprinkle the buttery cracker mixture topping all over the top, covering every bit for maximum crunch.

Scoop the chicken and pasta mixture into a casserole dish. Sprinkle the buttery crackers all over the top. Bake for 15–20 minutes.

Bake It Up

Pop the casserole into the preheated oven and let it bake for 15-20 minutes. You’ll know it’s ready when the top is golden brown, and the casserole is bubbling around the edges. If the top browns too quickly, cover it with aluminum foil.

Once done, pull it out and let it sit for a few minutes before serving.

Serve with Fresh Parsley

Just before serving, sprinkle on some chopped parsley if you’ve got it—it makes it look nice, even if you’re just feeding kids in pajamas.

And if you’re bringing it to a potluck or family dinner, slide the whole dish into this insulated casserole carrier I swear by (it can even fit two casserole dishes in it). It keeps things hot and saves you from awkward “whose foil-covered pan is leaking in the backseat?” moments.

Notes

  • Perfect Pasta: Be sure to cook the farfalle pasta just until al dente. This way, it won’t get too soft when baked in the creamy sauce.
  • Cream Cheese Softening Tip: Let the cream cheese sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes before mixing, so it blends smoothly with the other ingredients.
  • Shredded Chicken Shortcut: Use a rotisserie chicken from the store to save time and add extra flavor. Just shred it up and it’s ready to go.
  • Mixing Tip: Don’t overmix the chicken and pasta with the creamy sauce—gentle folding will keep the texture light and fluffy.
  • Even Topping: When adding the Ritz cracker topping, make sure it’s spread out evenly for that perfect buttery crunch with every bite.
  • Add Veggies: If you want to sneak in some extra nutrition, feel free to mix in veggies like peas or broccoli before baking.
  • Cheese Swap: You can swap the mozzarella for cheddar or a blend of both if you want a sharper, cheesier flavor.

Recipe Notes and Expert Tips

Getting your Million Dollar Casserole right is important, so here’s some extra tips to make sure it turns out perfect.

Just shred it up and it’s ready to go, but you could easily use shredded chicken breast.
  • Add Veggies: If you want to sneak in some extra nutrition, feel free to mix in veggies like peas, spinach, bell pepper, mushrooms, or broccoli before baking.
  • Cheese Swap: You can swap the mozzarella for cheddar or a blend of both if you want a sharper, cheesier flavor.

How to Store Leftover Million Dollar Casserole

Leftovers? No problem! Once the casserole has cooled, transfer it to an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, simply pop it in the microwave or oven until warmed through.

If you want to freeze the casserole, go ahead! Wrap individual portions tightly and freeze for up to 3 months. I use these containers; you can see what’s in them, they stack perfectly, and they are super easy to clean. Just make sure to thaw in the fridge overnight before reheating.

What to Serve With Million Dollar Chicken Casserole

This rich and creamy dish pairs beautifully with lighter sides to balance out the flavors. A crisp green salad with a simple vinaigrette is perfect, or you can serve it with steamed veggies like green beans or roasted broccoli.

For something heartier, try some garlic bread or a side of mashed potatoes to soak up all that creamy sauce.
