Making fudge is a lot easier than you think if you follow my straightforward instructions.

Prepare the pan

Start by lining an 8 x 8 pan with parchment paper. This step is key for making sure your fudge pops right out without sticking. Once that’s done, set the pan aside for later.

Melt the caramel candy melts

Add your caramel candy melts to a medium bowl, and pour one can of sweetened condensed milk over the top.

Microwave this for about 2 ½ minutes, making sure to stop every minute to give it a good stir. You want everything to melt evenly and not get scorched. Once it’s smooth and creamy, set it aside while you work on the next layer.

Flavor and melt the green candy melts

Now, grab a second bowl and add the green candy melts. Stir the green apple candy flavoring into the second can of sweetened condensed milk before pouring it over the candy melts.

Just like with the caramel melts, microwave for 2 ½ minutes, stopping to stir every minute until the mixture is silky smooth.

Layer and swirl

Here comes the fun part! Start by pouring a portion of the caramel mixture into your prepared pan, then pour some of the green apple mixture on top.

Pour some caramel mixture into the pan, then add some green apple mixture on top.

Alternate between the two layers about four times to create a beautiful swirl. Don’t stress about being perfect—those uneven swirls make the fudge even more fun.

Let it set

Once your layers are done, pop the pan into the fridge for at least 4 hours or until the fudge is firm and set.

When it’s ready, lift it out of the pan using the parchment paper and cut it into small, bite-sized pieces. Now you’ve got some seriously irresistible fudge ready to enjoy!

Recipe Notes and Expert Tips

  • Even Melting: Be sure to stir the mixtures every minute while microwaving. This prevents hot spots and ensures everything melts evenly.
  • Perfect Swirls: Don’t over-mix the layers when pouring them into the pan if you want that gorgeous swirl effect. Less is more here!
  • Bold Flavor: If you love a strong apple kick, feel free to add more green apple candy flavoring. Any brand works, but the LorAnn brand is top-notch.
  • Caramel Melts Only: Don’t substitute regular caramel for the caramel melts. It won’t come together well, and you’ll end up with a sticky mess instead of smooth fudge.
  • No Nonstick Spray: Don’t even think about using nonstick spray in place of parchment paper. You’ll have a nightmare getting the fudge out of the pan without tearing it apart. Stick with parchment for an easy release.
  • Pan Size Matters: Want thicker fudge? Use a smaller pan. Just know it will take longer to set and the pieces will be larger. For thinner fudge that sets quicker and has smaller pieces, go with a bigger pan—it all depends on your preference.
  • Salted vs. Regular Caramel: If you’re not into salted caramel, you can use caramel-flavored chocolate chips instead. Just make sure you’re not using real caramel—it won’t set properly.
  • Set Time: Let the fudge chill for at least 4 hours in the fridge. If you move it around while it’s setting, you might get wrinkles on the top. No worries, it’ll still taste amazing, just might not look as perfect!
  • Storage Tips: This fudge will stay fresh in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 weeks, or you can freeze it for up to 3 months. Just be sure to let it warm up a little before serving or it’ll be too hard to eat.
  • Room Temperature: For the best texture and flavor, let the fudge sit at room temperature for 10 minutes before serving.

How to Store Leftover Caramel Apple Fudge

Storing your Caramel Apple Fudge is super simple. Keep any leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge, and they’ll stay good for up to a week.

If you want to keep it longer, freezing is an option! Just wrap each piece in plastic wrap, place them in a freezer-safe container, and store for up to 3 months.

When you’re ready to eat, let the fudge thaw in the fridge for a few hours, and it’ll taste just as delicious as day one.
